About Us
Parbatya Bhikkhu Sangha Bangladesh (PBSB)
Parbatya Bhikkhu Sangha Bangladesh (PBSB) is a prestigious and long-standing Theravāda Buddhist monastic organization. It was founded in 1958 under the leadership of Rajguru Agnibansha Mahathera as the Chittagong Hill Tracts Bhikkhu Association.
Since its inception, the Sangha has taken far-reaching initiatives to establish discipline, unity, and stability among the Theravāda monastic community in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, as well as in Chittagong and Dhaka metropolitan areas.
In 1956, Rajguru Agnibansha Mahathera participated as the sole Buddhist monk from the then-undivided Chittagong Hill Tracts and the only representative of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) in the Sixth Buddhist Council held in Rangoon, Myanmar (then Burma). He served in the protocol department during the Council.
In 1978, a formal meeting of the organization was convened, where it was unanimously decided to dissolve the previous name and rename it as Parbatya Bhikkhu Sangha Bangladesh. The Sangha also has provisions to establish branches internationally as needed.
